THE SILENT SENTINELS

The Silent Sentinels: Minuteman Artwork Revealed

The Silent Sentinels: Minuteman Artwork Revealed tells the story of the men and women who have operated, maintained, secured, and supported our Minuteman missile system through art, much of which is hidden below ground in areas rarely seen by the American public. Since 1961, Missileers have served as the Silent Sentinels across Montana, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and Missouri providing a key leg of America’s nuclear deterrence triad. These Missileers found perfect canvases in the large concrete walls for artistic expression....

A Beautiful 324-Page Coffee Table Book

"The new book is simply outstanding! I have never read a more concise and accurate description of the Minuteman system. The artwork and poems are great, also."

 - Ranger Jim Boensch, Minuteman Missile National Historic site

"What an awesome treasure it is!!!!  I spent the evening flipping through the pages and reliving so many memories. I wanted to be a Missileer from the time I was 11. I was able to live that dream and still look back with very fond memories. This book will have a cherished spot in my home."

Don Adams, Col (ret)

"I gave the coffee table book as a Christmas gift to the family...fantastic.  Just read it cover to cover...WOW! Brought back many memories and lots of thoughts...some not so good, but mostly wonderful of my 12-plus years in missiles (FE Warren, Grand Forks (x2) and Whitman). Appreciate the efforts that went into its publication."

After missing a couple of AAFM National Meetings in a row, I made it out to Buellton/Vandenberg for this year’s event; and, it was great in my opinion!  There was a fantastic atmosphere of pride and family celebration of our mission, and, all that the men and women of the Force have accomplished over the years.

I came home with a copy of Jim Warner’s book “Silent Sentinels” and have had a very hard time putting it down this past week.  My opinion:  it is an outstanding collection of 20 AF artwork and history!! I don’t know how it could have been done any better!  It conveys our common experiences. It balances attention between the hardware and the human elements of the Force   It documents the paradoxical sense of the seriousness of what we’ve shared responsibility for, while also highlighting our pride and the humor we found in our trying circumstance.

I’m trying to imagine the persistence, reaching out, and time it took to research, assemble, write and publish this wonderful book!

I believe that it’s intended as an opportunity for each of us to enjoy something that’s extraordinary.  I strongly encourage you go to afmissileers.org and gift yourself with a copy.

"I considered a highlight of my career as a military historian to be asked to write a testimonial to this fantastic book.

Stunning is the only word I can think of to describe "The Silent Sentinels." Not only does it cover the Minuteman artwork in exquisite detail, but it places all of this into context....

Amerian Nuclear Warfare

I got mine last week and was immediately impressed by the quality. It was shipped very well too. I jumped right into the tunnel and blast door paintings and found more than I thought -- from maintenance shops and others.

- Jon Claus, Major (ret)

Got mine today, 11/12. Fantastic book professionally put together.

- Dwight Courtney

Beautiful book. Every missile guy/gal must have one. It tells our stories.
